The North American HAVAMEGA was held for the Hobie Wave, 17, 18, 20, Tiger and Hobie 16 Trapseat at Lake Havasu. Unfortunately the weather was not the best for Hobie sailing. But the event was successful with good racing when the weather permitted it. Also some Hobie Olympics on the beach and foreshore when the competitors could not race. Mike Strahle inventor and active racer of the Trapseat raced at Havamega and gives his account of the Trapseat racing and story.

At the recent ISAF Conference and the Multihull Commission meet. There were some discussions that will remain confidential, but the major issues were all on the table for everyone to see. Commissions generally meet in private, but most of the Multihull Commission meeting was held in open discussion. There is a report from the Chairman of the Multihull Commission in the newsletter.

The Hobie 16 was chosen as the only multihull to compete in the Asian Games and Asian Championships. These two events are regarded as the second biggest sporting event behind the Summer Olympics. The Hobie 16 was also endorsed as the multihull for the Pan Am Games in Mexico. The Asian Beach Games in Muscat, Oman will also have the Hobie 16. Add the Pacific Games in 2011 and the Hobie 16 has become the most widely used multihull at any sporting games.

The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) announced, as a result of actions taken by the ISAF Racing Rules Committee and the ISAF Council during the ISAF Annual Conference, several changes in The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-2012 will take effect on 1 January 2010.
