Dear Hobie sailors,
When the button is pushed for newsletter to sent out to all the sailors it takes nearly two hours for web site to do this. Though within 30 minutes of the button being pushed the first paid entry for the Hobie 16 Worlds in Weihai was received. Two thirds of the Hobie sailors had not yet received notification that the worlds was happening yet we got our first entry. Since the announcement there has been a steady flow of entries. Many more have written and confirmed they will be attending.
As always the Grand Masters and Masters is filling up fast. So don’t be disappointed and enter and pay as any delay could mean you may not be able to attend. There are a limited number of boats and only those that pay and enter will be able to race.
Weihai has easy access from Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul with many flights each day. Weihai has a long wide sandy beach with the host hotel less than three minute walk to the sailing. Weihai s a lovely sailing venue with unique culture. Weihai also has many headlands with historical buildings for the tourist to enjoy. August is the warmest month in Weihai ensuring warm water and some good sailing breezes. This will be world championships not to be missed.
Current Hobie 16 World Champion Mick Butler is one of the very few people to have raced a Hobie 16 in Weihai. With 25 years of racing Hobies at the highest level who is better to judge the location of the Hobie Worlds site. This is his thoughts on the venue. With winds ranging from 7 -22 knots everyday Weihai looks like a great location for a Hobie Worlds. With a long wide sandy beach, good sailing winds and a modern host hotel right across the road to the sailing venue Weihai is excellent. His full thoughts on Weihai are below.
