Dear Hobie sailors,
The IHCA Rules Committee have two documents, one for comment, the other for clarification. The first is a comment period for allowing a single tiller extension on the Hobie Wave. The second is the IHCA Rules Committee interpretation of IHCA General Rule 10.1. Minimum filing (allowed in the rules) does not mean you can alter the shape or design function of a rudder cam. Both documents are on the web site.
Hobie 16 Asian Championships were raced at Weihai, China. This included the first Chinese Hobie National Championships. The Hobie Asian and Hobie Chinese National was such a great success they are planing the event again for next year.
The photo from the Dutch Dragoon championships shows a lot of happy young Hobie sailors These sailors already showing the enjoyment of Hobie sailing are the future of our class.
The Hobie Tiger South African Championships were held at Langebaan. Five races back to back on Saturday as well as another five back to back on Sunday (both days 20 knots plus) tested the sailors. When looking through the results shows the strength of the Hobie Tiger fleet in South Africa with a lot of former Hobie World Champions.
Also in Africa the Nigerian Hobie 16 Championships was held. Again, a former Hobie 16 World Champion David Kruyt was on the podium.
XXXV Brazilian Hobie Cat 16 Championship and XXXIX Brazilian Hobie Cat 14 Championship have been announced October 29 – November 05, 2011. The host location Buzios, has been nominated as one of the top-10 most beautiful places in the world only 2 hours from Rio de Janeiro. The Pacific Games concluded in New Caledonia. The eventual winners were Teiva Veroniqu/Jennifer Delattre from Tahiti with Jerome Le Gal/ Remy Desbordes in second (New Caledonia) with Shayne/Torika Brodie (Fiji) third.Tahiti won the team medal with Fiji second and New Caledonia third.
This month the Pan Am are being held in October 14–30, 2011 in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, this prestigious event is held every fours years to countries in the North and South America with 41 countries eligible to enter. The multihull chosen for these Games? The Hobie 16, the largest multihull class in the world. The multihull chosen by all the Regional Games that race multihulls. We wish all the sailors that are representing their country all the best.
The universality of the Hobie Class shows the popularity of the Hobie world wide. We have more countries joining the IHCA. Hobie sailing just keeps getting stronger. The Hobie 16 remains the undisputed largest multihull class in the world.
