Dear Hobie Sailor,

We have some big sailing events recently. The Hobie 16 North American Championships in Ventura which had 36 brand new Hobie 16’s supplied for the competitors by Hobie Cat Company. Well done to the women’s winners Annie Nelson and Kathy Kulkowski also new youth champion Jason Alexander Hess Castillo and crew Charles Hess who won 10 straight races to drop a first place. Congratulations to Enrique and Carla Figueroa for an outstanding performance in winning the Open. This is turning out to be a Figueroa year with Enrique winning the Hobie Tiger Worlds in March.  For those of us not able to attend the North American Championships, Ed Muns did a great job giving us live reporting from the committee boat to the web site. Ed’s insight made us feel if we were really there and part of the action. If you wish to read the reports just click here

Half way around the world we had the ISAF Youth Worlds in Korea. There we had the future champions of our Class sailing in some difficult conditions.  The racing in Korea was extremely close with the top five sailors never separated by a few points. Some of these young champions will be in South Africa for the Chevrolet Hobie 16 Worlds. With these young sailors attending they will surely give some of the older sailors a big scare on the race track. The young sailor with the frequent flyer miles must be Juani Maegli from Guatemala. After finishing 4th at the ISAF Youth Worlds in Korea, Juani headed for the North American Championships were he finished 2nd.  A truly wonderful effort from a future champion.
