Dear Hobie Sailor,

The Hobie Cat 16 Worlds in Fiji is going to be exciting. Within half an hour of the online entry going live the first entry was received.  In under a month of the online entry every Hobie Region has a minimum of one entry.  Every sailor is urged to enter as soon as possible. The Hobie Cat 16 Worlds are a supplied boat world championships, so the first entries that pay will get the boats. If you leave the entry to later then all the boats maybe taken.

The2008 Hobie Tiger and Dragoon Worlds Championships got a boost when Hobie Cat Company Australasia announced they negotiated a container for Australian Hobie Tigers. The notice went online at the IHCA web site on Thursday and by Saturday afternoon the container was filled, showing great support from the Aussie Hobie Tiger sailors. Hobie Cat Company Australasia and the IHCA are already discussing hosting of the 2010 Hobie Tiger Worlds.

Don’t forget to look at the movie on the site for the 2008 Hobie Tiger and Dragoon World Championships. It not only shows the wonderful location but has some wonderful memory photos from previous Hobie Worlds.

Congratulations to Enrique Figueroa and his wife Carla for winning the North American Hobie 16 Championships. Enrique won the Hobie 14 World Championships in 1981 and 85 Enrique and Carla won the IYRU Worlds (now the ISAF Sailing Games) in 94.  Also to David Kruyt and his son Josh (crew) on winning the Nigerian Hobie 16 Championships. David won the 1991 Hobie 16 Worlds.  It is great to see our world champions still involved with Hobie sailing and sailing with their families. Bob Curry came back to win the North American Hobie 14 Championships. Bob won the Hobie 14 Worlds in 1984.

The North American Hobie 16 web site had live updates. This gave the web site (hosted by the IHCA) record number of hits for the week. It again emphasizes the importance of the web and keeping the information “live”.

Congratulations to the Vongtim brothers who won the Allied Pickfords Hobie Asian Championships. They have been battling Singapore’s Huang and Chung all around the world. They will conclude this year on water racing at the Asian Sailing Games in Doha.
